6th Annual ESDAA Soccer Tournament held on WPSD Campus.

WPSD hosted the 6th annual ESDAA Soccer Tournament on its campus on October 22-23.  Three other schools for the Deaf enjoyed this wonderful event – Ohio School for the Deaf, Marie Philip/Walden School and Lexington School for the Deaf.  Our blue and gold lions were victorious against the Ohio School for the Deaf Spartans! WPSD defeated their opponent by a score of 3 – 0. This win landed our Lions a spot in the championship game.  It was a hard-fought battle for the championship for the Lions against Marie Philip/Walden School.  Players from both teams gave it their all for the entire 80 minute matchup. In the end, Marie Philip/Walden School defeated WPSD by a score of 3 – 1. Our very own Spencer, Luel, and Geb made the All-Tournament Team. No matter the score, we are so proud of our team – their efforts, commitment, attitudes, sportsmanship – all of it. They are always #1 in our hearts!

Let the 2022-23 School Year Begin! Welcome Back Lions!

It was so wonderful to see our students’ smiling faces again on Sunday, August 21st as the new school year began.  Residential students returned that evening onto campus. Families helped their children unpack, settle in, and get ready for a new and exciting school year. Staff warmly greeted them, helping to make the transition to their home-away-from-home a little bit easier. We are so happy to have them back!

On Monday morning, WPSD’s very own Lion mascot was on hand to welcome everyone back to campus.  It is always a joy to see our students reconnect with staff and their peers, ready to embrace a fun, fresh start to the new year!  Our teachers, staff, and administrators are wishing all of our students a wonderful school year!  We are #WPSDProud!

Learning Continues in the Summer at WPSD!

Through hands-on activities and experiments, students in our Children’s House and the Extend School Year program have been learning the differences between saltwater and freshwater, naming the five oceans, and exploring what can be found in them.  The students have enjoyed painting seashells, grading shells from largest to smallest, and experimenting with sink and float. Soon, they will have the opportunity to learn about the layers of the ocean and what living creatures can be found in each layer.

Now Presenting the Class of 2022

On a warm evening in June, fifteen seniors officially graduated from WPSD. After they received their diplomas, each student talked about their love for their family, friends, and WPSD.  We were so pleased to have Dr. Becky Clark – a certified mental performance consultant, sports diplomat, mentor, scholar, and licensed psychotherapist – as the commencement speaker. WPSD staff and students are so proud of each and every one of these seniors – of their accomplishments and the good people they have become. Special congratulations to the valedictorian, Valerie D., and salutatorian, Destiny M.  As you go out into the world to make your mark, “Always Remember and Never Forget, WPSD is #1!”

Graduation Day Traditions

Fifteen WPSD seniors walked the halls of the School for the last time on the morning of June 9th. The graduates were dressed in their caps and gowns, being cheered on by their friends and peers who lined the halls to high five them and congratulate them on this important milestone.

Later the seniors gathered in front of the main building of the school to pose for their formal graduation pictures. Of course, some fun and silly photos were thrown into the mix as well. It was a great way to capture this important moment in their lives and commemorate their enduring friendships!  We will miss this wonderful group of students! #WPSDproud

Prom 2022

The WPSD students who attended the Prom enjoyed a wonderful night of dinner, fun and dancing!  The campus was full of energy and excitement as students arrived for the Promenade in their finest attire and dresses.  It was wonderful to see family, friends and staff attending this pre-Prom event.

This year’s Prom was held at the Edgewood Country Club in Churchill! Wade D. was named Prom King and Fahmo A. took the crown for the Queen. DJ Nico DiMarco provided some excellent tunes for this wonderful night. An exciting and memorable event for all involved!
