WPSD has made a commitment to reach out to the community through     a variety of events and projects.

WPSD is one of the founders of the Commitment to Community Committee. This group of leaders from the municipal, non-profit and business sectors of Edgewood, Swissvale and Wilkinsburg meet for the purpose of strengthening relationships and dialogues on the challenges and opportunities facing their communities.

  • JOIN US ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2ND FROM 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. FOR THE FOURTH ANNUAL COMMUITY BLOCK PARTY.                                 It's a great way to spend a Satureday afternoon and an opportunity for neighbors, civic organizations and businesses to get to know each other.  Children's activities, a strolling magician, food and a classic car show are all part of the fun.  Contact Gregg Bowers (gbowers@wpsd.org) or Vicki Cherney (vcherney@wpsd.org) at 412-371-7000 for information on how you can be part of the 2010 Community Block Party.

WPSD staff members are involved in the community through activites ranging from community organizations to board memberships to volunteer fire deparments.

WPSD events held throughout the year include golf outings, a dinner auction, skeet shoot and a community yard sale. Volunteers are an integral part of these functions.

The school is a member of the American Society for Deaf Children (ASDC).

WPSD publications provide information about the school, residential programs, activities and special events. The Western Pennsylvanian has been published since 1893, and its mailing list continues to grow.

Press releases are sent to print and broadcast media throughout the school year.
