We are growing! Planning is underway for the expansion of our Children’s Center. Would you consider a gift to help create new instruction space for our youngest students?
A WONDERFUL PLACE FOR AN AMAZING START! An exciting new project is taking place at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf! Planning is underway for the expansion of our Children’s Center. The Children’s Center, which serves Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students aged 3 to 6, is grounded in the belief that all children are individuals who learn in their own way and at their own pace.
WE ARE GROWING! Our Children’s Center provides everything teachers and children could want in a preschool– and just like our students, the Center is growing. Due to the increasing number of students enrolling in the Children’s Center, we seek to expand into an empty space directly above it. By renovating approximately 10,000 square feet in a former residential living area, WPSD will create a comprehensive early education center on campus that would serve as a one-stop shop for families with D/HH children.
The expansion will offer additional classrooms for students and teachers and evaluation offices for audiological and speech services. The renovation will also provide the opportunity to gather existing early education programs, such as Choices for Children, a statewide early intervention program serving children
from birth to age 3, Discovery Days, the toddler group providing early intervention for children from 12 to 35 months, and the Children’s House, a Montessori based program for d/hh and hearing children, to all be brought together under one roof.
THE IMPACT. The Children’s Center at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf is building brighter futures for every student that walks through its doors. We are excited about the positive impacts the Center is making in students’ lives, and the need to find more space is a testament to the increasing demand for its programs and services.
