Western PA School for the Deaf teacher Malkah Bird has taught mentally challenged children to tell time, use sign language and count money. But when one of her students developed a deadly cancer, Bird began teaching her most difficult lesson.

WPSD has been hosting the visit of 14 students and 5 staff members from the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Chldren in Sidney, Austrailia. The visit includes a week of activities at WPSD, followed by tours of Washington D.C. and New York City with our WPSD 11th graders.
