2012 Outreach Conference – Video Announcement

The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf & The Scranton School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children will host the 2012 Outreach Conference in three locations this spring:
• Monday, March 5 Camp Hill, Pa
• Monday, April 2 Clarks Summit, Pa
• Monday, April 30 Pittsburgh, Pa

The 2012 Conference welcomes two prestigious professionals:
• Dr. Connie Mayer is an associate professor at York University in Toronto, Canada, a consultant, editor and a researcher in the written language and literacy development in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Learners.
• Dr. Marc Marschark, a professor and director at the National Technology Institute for the Deaf, at Rochester Institute of Technology. His current research on relations of language and learning by deaf children and adults is internationally known.

Dr. Mayer will present, Principles into Practice: Planning Language & Literacy Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Learners. This presentation will consider the ways in which language and code related abilities effect the development of both reading and writing.

Dr. Marschark’s presentation, “Language and Learning: What We Know and What We Don’t Know” re-examines some of our assumptions and challenges in education and talks about partnerships between parents, teachers, students and researchers.
