WPSD is pleased to announce a job opening - Full-time ASL Teacher. This position will report to the ASL Specialist and the Principal. The ASL Teacher's duties and functions include: assist in the investigation
and identification of an evaluation method for the ASL/English program assessing progress and gains; with the ASL Specialist, survey current program and develop formal ASL/English curriculum; assist in evaluating the expressive and receptive ASL skills of students; tutor new students in ASL development; assist in classrooms as mentor for ASL support of deaf students; provide weekly story-telling sessions with Children's Center and Lower School as assigned by ASL Specialist; with ASL Specialist, create story-telling videos to share with families; provide instructional support for specific lessons related to ASL; assist with SLPI interviews and ratings; and assume any other job responsibilities as assigned by
supervisor.
Qualifications: PA Instructional I or II Certification in Deaf Education or ASL
Certification. Must have PA State Police Criminal Clearance (Act 34), PA Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Clearance.
Specialized Training, Education or Experience: Teacher of the Deaf with a background in ASL or a person with an ASL degree willing to work towards PA Teacher of the Deaf certification at the Master's Degree level is preferred. Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) level for this position is “Superior.”
