Technology

In 1993 WPSD collaborated with the Buhl Foundation of Pittsburgh in developing the Interactive Technology Project, an award-winning program for integrating technology into the curriculum. This project provided not only the technology equipment needed to set up a fully functional multimedia computer lab but also the training necessary for teachers to successfully use the technologies to meet curriculum objectives.

Since that time, WPSD has been strongly committed to this approach in providing the technology skills necessary for students in today’s educational setting.

WPSD offers its students an educational environment infused with technology. Computers are integrated into every aspect of campus life. In the Children’s Center students learn how to use a mouse and play educational games on computers. Fifth and sixth graders receive extensive training in keyboarding, word processing and multimedia project production. During the high school years, students have many opportunities to improve their skills with the latest technology in their classrooms, school and dormitory computer labs, and in the Learning Center.

The WPSD staff receives training in using technology not only to improve student understanding of the concepts they present, but also to integrate technology into the curriculum. This ongoing staff development is the key component to ensure that technology will be fully integrated in the curriculum across all subject areas at all grade levels.
