WPSD student with Reading Friends

Visitors needing assistance during off hours can contact WPSD Security at:
The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf
(412) 606-4100
wpsdsecurity@tmo.blackberry.net

Parents, Alumni, and friends of WPSD are welcome and encouraged to visit the school; however, because of security and safety concerns, these visits must be managed and supervised. Whenever possible, visitors should contact the school in advance and schedule a time for the visit.

On Monday thru Friday, during school hours, all visitors need to check in with the security guard at the front gate on Swissvale Avenue. The guard will inform the receptionist that a visitor has arrived and open the gate.

All visitors must register at the reception area in the front office and receive a “Visitors Pass,” which must be worn at all times while visiting, and returned when the visit concludes. Visitors who have business with the school should check in and wait at the reception area until a school representative escorts them to the appropriate department/office.

Parents who have appointments or wish to visit classes should check in at the reception area. A representative from their child’s department will meet them and escort them to the proper location.

Visitors are not allowed into residential areas without the permission of the Dean or Assistant Dean of Students.

People attending special events such as Homecoming, May Day, etc. do not need visitor passes for the purpose of attending. These days are good times for people to visit the school, visit with friends and teachers, and tour the campus and buildings.

Tours can be arranged for families by contacting the Children’s Services Coordinator. All other tours can be arranged by contacting the Administrative Assistant to the Principal.

People participating in ASL classes will be given a pass to the buildings for the duration of the classes. Each pass will explicitly say the dates of the classes. ASL class members will not be allowed to roam the buildings and must go directly to their assigned classroom.
